Quick Time Saving Tip: No Fold Towels

by Jennifer on August 31st, 2008

I’m in the middle of a move, so my laundry pile is sadly neglected, and where I find most of my clothing and towels right now. I’m not proud of it, it’s just the way it goes.

I got to thinking, (I hate folding laundry). When it comes to kitchen and bathroom towels, why not just keep a decent looking basket with a lid in each room, and toss unfolded towels into it? No one cares if a towel is wrinkled, and you could toss in a few drops of lavender essential oil to keep the basket fresh. If you have the room for a basket, why not?

Would I do this? Well, I don’t love folding laundry, but I also don’t think I have space in my kitchen for a basket. Also, there’s something calming about a nicely folded linen closet - so I don’t know? Maybe.

Would you quit folding towels to save time and just toss them in a basket?

I roll my bath towels. For kitchen clean up towels, I toss them in a wicker basket underneath the sink. They’re out of sight so I don’t mind them being unfolded.

Nope, I wouldn’t do this! I think towels are one of the easiest things to fold and they look nice all stacked neat in a row. I also like the look of rolled towels, which sometimes works well for certain storage areas.

While I don’t love laundry, folding towels is one thing I do not mind doing. I keep my towels in nice baskets in my kitchen but I still fold or roll them.

Not only do I fold my towels, but I do it a specific way - the same way Macy’s does. I can’t help it. I used to work in the domestics department and I was brainwashed. It’s been years, but I still can’t fold them any other way.

I agree. Folding towels is easy. I wonder if you could find a nice free-standing cabinet to put them in.

Folding towels is one of the things I can’t stand to do but because of the space issue I have to fold them. So I usually fold them as I take them off teh clothesline.

I hate folding stuff in general, but towels are the easiest and most fulfilling items to fold - although I have plenty of them sitting in laundry baskets at any given moment. I aspire to a “Martha Stewart” style linen closet with lavender ribbons tying up sets of towels, but I think that won’t happen any time soon. A girl needs a few fantasies.

No I wouldn’t. That would take more space than folding them for the drawer in the kitchen for dishtowels and the basket/shelf in the bathrooms. I do them as I take them from the clothes line also.

@Maureen true, I agree that in some cases this does take up more room.
