Get Rid of Mental Clutter
Like stuff crowding your house, stuff crowding your mind is no good either. In fact, the more cluttered your mind, the harder it is to actually keep your living spaces clutter free. You can’t concentrate, you’re tired, maybe sort of down, and organizing sounds like no fun at all, not when your brain is cluttering up your thinking process.
That said, it’s due time we took a good hard look at mental clutter. Not that your’s truly is a therapist or anything, but I do know this much; mind clutter is lame and there’s few reasons to keep it around.

Now mental clutter can be a stand alone issue, or it can actually be a chicken or egg syndrome issue. If your home is over-cluttered, maybe that’s why your mind is cluttered. Or is it that your mind is cluttered so your space is too? Hmmm, see what I mean. Which came first the mind clutter or the space clutter?
Here’s how you can tell where the issue started:
Space clutter and mind clutter ARE connected and revolving: IF you’re not stressed in other areas of your life. If work, family, life, and other issues are going well, staying steady, or at least not bugging you, then your problem is likely a revolving clutter issue. I.e the chicken or egg syndrome.
Life issues suck and thus you can’t clear clutter: IF you’re down about family issues, have a lame partner, work worries, or another problem in your life that’s constantly dragging you down, then the issue is not so much that your stuck in revolving clutter, you just maybe have your mind on the clutter in your head, which of course distracts you from the real space clutter around you.
Lost yet? It’s ok. This is just a kick off. Later this week we’ll be looking at:
- What to do if you’re stuck in a rut due to ongoing clutter - the revolving clutter issue.
- What you can start doing to clear your mind of clutter; if life is sucking.
- Channeling your mind clutter into something useful.
- Some fun products that may help relieve mind clutter.
Ridding yourself of mental clutter is not easy; there’s no nice Tupperware set, or white board that can solve the issue today. However, there’s also no reason to live amicably with mind clutter. It can be banished with some work on your part.
Do you feel like your mind is too cluttered?

I agree that the mental clutter is much harder to deal with. It is much easier to get rid of “things” than “stinkin thinkin”.
Sometimes we blame the physical clutter for our stress and use it as an excuse to avoid facing the mental clutter. When there isn’t any physical clutter around we have no choice but to recognize that the mental clutter is the problem.

Stinkin thinkin, I haven’t heard that term in years and years, wow. Memories. I agree, we do sometimes blame physical stuff for the mental issues, it’s best just to be balanced on all levels, but hard at times.

Mental clutter definitely leads to physical clutter. At least for me. When I’m feeling stressed or down, sometimes I “put off” looking at mail or organizing, and suddenly I have a huge pile that just makes me feel worse. It’s like when my mind is stressed I can’t even think about how to organize.
But you’ve got to take the first step, and once you do it’s usually an easier process going forward.
