Start Getting Summer Organized
Ok, we can’t get summer totally organized in one post. That’s just silly. However, we can start to get our summer in shape.
Here are some things you should be doing around the house:
- Check all your first aid kits. The kids will be playing out side more often, and you need to make sure that your kits aren’t outdated, or missing some vital supply (like when you took the tweezers out for an art project - oh, wait, that was me).
- If you’ll be going on vacation, start your packing list now. The sooner the better. Items may pop into your head, keeping an ongoing list, can help you keep track.
- Clean your gutters. I know it rains less in the summer. BUT who wants to clean the gutters during the rainy and windy seasons? Not me.
- Clean your outside garbage cans. It’s getting hot, and they’ll smell better all fresh and clean.
- Check all board games and see if any pieces are missing. If your kids are normally in school the games may be getting more use now. Visit Missing Game Parts to look for replacement pieces.
- Schedule any needed winter home maintenance now - think furnace and roofing issues, for example. It could cost you less to get these issues taken care of now, plus everyone aims to get these tasks scheduled for the end of summer, before winter kicks in. Beat the crowds.
- Make summer snack bins for your kids - grab two bins for each kid. Put one on a shelf and one in the fridge. Fill each with snacks that they can easily get themselves. Crackers in small containers, refillable juice boxes (see below), cheese sticks, apples, grapes, yougurt tubes, and homemade fruit snacks are good choices. Kids can grab their own snacks without bugging you all day long. Remember to consider packaging; some is tough for little ones to open.
Rubbermaid Litterless Juice Boxes or Klean Kanteen 12 oz Stainless Steel Sippy Cups are a good choice for your kid’s refillable summer drinks.

Well, this gets the summer going. Of course we’ll have more summer organizing coming up though.
What do you do to prep your home for summer?

Great tips for summer. Don’t forget the insect repellent and sunscreen.
