Quote from The Effective Life
I was over at one of my favorite blogs, The Effective Life, this morning and this comment was there to greet me:
When it comes to how we design, decorate or organize our “places” sometimes we give too much credence to things that don’t deserve it. Perhaps sometimes in parting, we will actually add clarity to what is important and truly necessary… and then we can think clearly about what is needed to carry on.
Simply put… maybe keeping all of Grandpa’s books is not as important as keeping the two that he actually read to you.
I asked Jon if he could turn that last statement into a refrigerator magnet or something. I just love it. If you haven’t been to his blog, you must visit it. He has some very amazing insights.

I don’t know; I have a hard time giving up stuff that belonged to someone important. Like I have a box of quilt blocks from my grandma — from the quilt she had barely started when she died. I don’t quilt; but we did used to sew together so I really like them. Plus I keep thinking I’ll use them but honestly I may not ever. But I do realize you can’t hang on to everything. It’s a tough call where to draw the line. Also, why am I wasting time keeping scrapbooks if no one will save them? What to do? I have no clue. Look I’m rhyming!

@Jennifer - are you staying up too late again. You know that’s when the rhyming starts. :)
I know what you mean, it is hard to let go of things like that. I think it’s different that you have a box of quilt scraps, as opposed to boxes and boxes of them. If I had those I wouldn’t get rid of them either. That was something you two shared together.
“Get some sleep tonight, now I mean it. Anybody want a peanut?” So I changed the quote a little, but can anyone name that movie? :)

Just a thought about those quilt blocks. Why not frame one or two or four, and then you could enjoy them everyday, and let the rest go to a quilter. Less clutter more enjoyment.
Otherwise there are people who would make the blocks into a quilt for you, I know my grandmother had it done. She found some quilt blocks in a bit of stuff she bought at an auction or yard sale and had them made into a quilts for me and my cousin.
Worth checking out.

Tammy: I love that idea! I was at a friend’s house yesterday and I noticed she had old blue jean pockets in a frame. Her sons’ room (twin boys) is decorated in a cowboy theme. It’s really cute! I think quilt blocks would look amazing.
